Artist Featured In Episode
One
Snoop Dogg:
As the embodiment of '90s gangsta rap, Snoop Doggy Dogg blurred the lines
between reality and fiction. Introduced to the world through Dr. Dre's The
Chronic, Snoop Dogg quickly became the most famous star in rap, partially
because of his drawled, laconic rhyming style. His debut album, 1993's
Doggystyle, become the first debut album to enter the charts at number one.
Aside from a budding acting career, and being a multi-platinum superstar, Snoop
owns a successful record label, and boasts the highest selling adult video of
2001.
Naughty By Nature:
The group exploded on the scene during the summer of 1991 with "O.P.P." and
"Everything's Gonna Be Alright" from their self-titled debut, Naughty by
Nature. Their second album, 19 Naughty III (1993) featured another crossover
smash, "Hip Hop Hooray," which rivaled "O.P.P." as the national catchphrase of
the early '90s. Their previously released albums: Naughty By Nature
(1991 - Platinum), 19 Naughty III (1993 - Platinum), Poverty's
Paradise (1995 - Gold), and 19 Naughty IX: Nature's Fury (1999 -
Gold) has sold over 4 million copies combined. Naughty has received the
following accolades in their 10 year career: Grammy Award for Best Rap Album,
American Music Award for Best New Rap Group and a Source Award for New Artist of
the Year. After a two-year hiatus, the international superstars are back and
ready to make fans 'feel good' again with their new album, iicons,
released on Naughty/TVT Records.
Redman:
As Newark, New Jersey's number-one representative, Redman has put it down for
almost 10 straight years, delivering hits each time out. His four solo albums:
Whut? Thee Album, Dare Iz A Darkside, Muddy Waters,
Doc's Da Name 2000, and two collaboration joints - Blackout with
Method Man and El Nino with Def Squad have placed the rapper in a hip hop
hall of fame, because only a few artists have managed to be that consistent.
This past year, he received a Source Award with Method Man for live performer of
the year, and has recently been nominated for a Grammy Award with De La Soul for
his performance on the song "Oooh." Also, he co-starred in a major motion
picture How High alongside Method Man.
De La Soul:
Coming out of Long
Island in 1989 with their first album, Three Feet High and Rising, De La
Soul quickly won tremendous praise for this strong rap and hip hop album with
well-known tracks, "Me Myself and I" and "Jenifa Taught Me."
De La Soul (Posdnous,
Trugoy and Mase) has gone on to change the face of hip hop with three other
releases, De La Soul Is Dead in 1991, Buhloone Mindstate in 1993
and Stakes Is High in 1996. Over the years, the band has collaborated
with A Tribe Called Quest's Q-tip, The Jungle Brothers, Maceo Parker and Black
Sheep. De La Soul continues to create passionate, enticing music. Their most
recent release Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump has gained them a
Grammy nomination for the single “Oooh” featuring Redman
Warren G: It was his half
brother Dr. Dre's “World Class Wreckin Cru” which inspired Warren G to follow a
musical path. He first began rapping and producing while working at the local
VIP record store. Later he helped form Dr. Dre's “Dogg Pound” collective with
Nate Dogg and his best friend, Snoop Doggy Dogg. The trio also worked together
as part of the unrecorded 213. His role in the development of West Coast rap
was crucial - he is credited with having introduced Snoop Dogg to Dr. Dre.
Having subsequently produced a track for M.C. Breed "Gotta Get Mine," and
appeared on both The Chronic and Doggystyle, he then wrote,
produced and guested on Mista Grimm's "Indo Smoke" which also appeared in the
feature film Poetic Justice. Warren G also produced Tupac Shakur's
"Definition Of A Thug” which was included on the soundtrack album Above The
Rim, which hit the number one spot on the US R&B album charts.
Luniz:
Their groundbreaking 1995 Gold debut, Operation Stackola, featured
the internationally acclaimed Platinum hit "I Got Five On It." The
super-talented duo, Yukmouth and Numskull, not only cleverly trade their
innovative free flowing sing-song creative rhymes off each other, but they also
prove to be masters at whatever type of rap or hip hop that they choose to flip
the script on. The secret to the Luniz' appeal is that however seemingly
serious or trivial, a topic the two choose to tackle, they always make it
instantly engaging when they flex their insightful lyrics and refreshingly
unique flows. Luniz currently have a West Coast underground hit titled “Oakland
Raiders.”
Outlawz:
Best known for being Tupac’s crew, the Outlawz are responsible for helping Tupac
sell over 20 million albums collectively. Introduced on Tupac’s “Me Against The
World,” the Outlawz have appeared on every album Tupac recorded till his death
in 1996. The posthumous greatest hits sold over 9 million units. The Outlawz
went on with the success of their Platinum selling debut Ride Wit Us Or
Collide Wit Us. Their latest album titled Novakane was released
earlier this year.
Daz
Dillinger:
Daz is well known
for being one-half of the West Coast rap group “The Dogg Pound.” One the most
important members of the mid-'90s Death Row Records empire, producer/rapper Daz
Dillinger worked alongside some of the West Coast's best rappers. Along with
Kurupt, Nate Dogg, and Snoop Dogg, Dillinger (at time known as Dat Nigga Daz)
was one of the Long Beach, CA. clique that had been introduced to Dr. Dre
through Warren G during the preliminary stages of the legendary
The Chronic
album. Though Dillinger played only a minor role in the success of that album as
a rapper, his subsequent contributions to Snoop Dogg's
Doggystyle
album as a rapper quickly established him as an up-and-coming West Coast
talent. When his production of 2Pac's All Eyez on Me was a major
success, he was chosen to be Dr. Dre's successor for the production of Snoop's
Tha Doggfather album.
Dru Down:
Oakland rapper Dru Down debuted in 1994 with
Explicit Game,
scoring a hit with the single "Mack of the Year." The record also served as a
launching pad for his Bay Area cronies the Luniz. Dru Down returned in 1996
with Can
You Feel Me
plus that same year
he made his film debut in Original Gangstas.

7:00PM to 12 Midnight, making him one of the most popular radio personalities in
the city. Felli moved to LA from KKDA in Dallas better known as the number one
urban station K104. There he hung out with the “Tite at Nite crew.” When asked
what one word that best describes him, he couldn’t do it, saying “I’m a hip hop
producer, I’m a mixer, an on-air personality…” Most currently, he is putting
together beats for DJ Quik, while working on re-mixes for both Jive and RCA
records.
Ras Kass:
Over the course of two albums, Western Hemisfearer Ras
Kass has made himself the darling of rap's underground scene, and defies the
West Coast tradition of focusing on beats over lyrics. His 1996 debut, Soul
on Ice, earned him comparisons to KRS-One for his intellectually stimulating
rhymes, which are full of literary reference and ghetto realness. His
follow-up, Rasassination, was released in 1998 and included the Dr. Dre

anticipated album titled Van Gough. He is also one-third of the
